De-escalation in the Schools: Identifying Trigger Points in Children
Alicia Octavia & Alexia Ennis
This training will explore the stages of escalating behaviors and support those intervening with interventions to both manage and prevent these behaviors from occurring. Important topics for discussion will be the seven phases of escalating behaviors and how to intervene when engaging in a crisis situation. We will explore the signs that a behavior is escalating, as well as, behaviors the adult can engage in that will decrease or increase acting out behaviors. Participants will also explore how they themselves can be triggering in their interactions with clients and students. Additionally, training participants will engage in activities to explore the ways that students trigger them and the steps they can take to manage their own emotions when engaging with difficult students.
