HIV, Harm Reduction, and Cultural Competence – September 21, 2018

Hannah Stutts

This workshop will enhance introductory knowledge of HIV/AIDS, highlight the contextual realities of HIV in the South and the greater Charlotte Area, and debunk myths that foster stigma towards people living with HIV. Participants will have an increased understanding of HIV prevention, the continuum of HIV care, and local resources available to refer clients for appropriate services. We will discuss strategies and ideas aimed at reducing the negative consequences associated with drug use & also address the importance of acknowledging the roles which race and social determinants play in provision of health services. Workshop participants will be challenged to gain awareness of how personal identity influences one's community with clients and the ways in which it can impact quality of service.
