Providing Services for Transgender Individuals in Substance Use Treatment Settings – September 7, 2018

Becky Stamler

Transgender people have long been subjected to prejudice and systemic oppression, often forced to live in silence. The information presented in this training can help providers to understand the unique issues and problems related to Transgender individuals, whether in private practice, state agencies, inpatient, IOP, or day treatment for Substance Use Disorders. High rates of drug and alcohol use in a significantly stigmatized culture place Transgender individuals at increased risk for substance use disorders, as well as higher risk for suicidal ideation. Research, current guidelines, and useful resources will be presented to help you to assess and meet your client’s multifaceted needs for treatment.
