Is it REALLY cool to JUUL?

  • JUULs, PuffBars, and other disposable vapes are popular because they’re super small, they look like USBs, pretty much all gas stations sell them, and there are different flavors to choose from.

  • But, 2/3 of youth think that JUULs do not always contain nicotine, which is wrong. ALL JUULs contain nicotine - which is highly addictive. If you’re vaping to relieve your anxiety, you could just be making yourself more anxious. What if you don’t have your JUUL with you one day? What if your battery dies? Vaping is not the way to relieve that anxiety. Hit a yoga class if you’re feeling super anxious - NOT a JUUL.

  • As if JUULs being addictive wasn’t bad enough, there have been reports of the batteries in JUULs overheating and exploding! I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to chance a JUUL exploding near my face. No thanks, I’m good.

Vaping: Myths vs. Facts

  • MYTHS

Vaping is just water vapor, so it is not harmful.

E-cigarettes do not contain nicotine and are not addictive.

People who vape don’t smoke cigarettes.

  • FACTS

Vapes contain a wide variety of chemicals in addition to water vapor.

Actually, 99% of e-cigarettes DO contain nicotine, which is very addictive.

Among people ages 13-25, 55.9% of vape users also smoked cigarettes.

Everyone you know is NOT vaping…

According to the 2020 Stanly County Youth Drug Survey, by age 15 ONLY:

  • 16.7% of youth were vaping

  • 12% were drinking alcohol

  • 8.5% were using marijuana

  • 8.5% were misusing prescription drugs

& by age 18 ONLY:

  • 17.1% of youth were vaping

  • 25% were drinking alcohol

That means, by age 18, 82.9% of your peers are NOT vaping & 75% are NOT drinking alcohol.

I’m over it. What now?

For youth ages 14-19, “Not on Tobacco” (NOT) is a tobacco/vape cessation program that was designed specifically for teenagers and focuses on what is important to them.

Approximately 90% of youth who participate in “NOT” decrease their tobacco/vape use or stop altogether!

Youth who participate in “NOT” also have improved grades, increased motivation, and improved relationships with teachers.
