Launching Our Youth Podcast
Established in 2014, the mission of Alianza is to use environmental prevention, education and community collaboration to create change and prevent substance use among Latino youth in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. One of the many ways we achieve this is through our efforts in increasing the community’s awareness on specific topics.
Earlier this year, the Alianza Youth Council wanted to establish a method to consistently reach out to the community to talk about the topics that are important to them. Their brainstorming process led them to decide that a series of videos posted on social media would be the best way to interact with the younger audiences we are hoping to reach. These videos would be divided into several categories: short videos posted on TikTok that were engaging and entertaining, and longer podcast-style videos posted on our main social media platforms that contained important information. All of the videos would focus on our four key values: Identity, Community, Culture, and Resilience.
This past June, filming of the videos officially began with our podcast series! These videos can be found on our newly created YouTube channel, but they will also be posted on our other social media platforms. Check out our latest podcast, where our youth leaders discuss their thoughts on race and ethnicity in the Hispanic community.
We’d like to give a special shout-out and thanks to everyone who helped this project become possible! This includes: our youth leaders, Ashlie, Lina, and Miguel; our podcast director, Mike Santi; and the project lead, Fabbiana Gutierrez.
